Week 7: Musical and Computation
Many people like to watch classic art because it can bring them to the past time. But the classic art may have a limit presenting way and hard to make people feel into the scene.
Last week, I went to watched a famous musical that I always want to watch since high school, Chicago. It is a classical musical which performance in a crowd and old theatre. Classic musicals have a simple way to interact with the audience, they used live music and the actors dancing closer to the audiences. Also, the lights and when the actors talk or sing about something will make people have emotion and reaction. Nowadays, there are many ways to make the audience better understand the scene, like an immersive theater, and some are using interactive technology. Computation is important to interaction technology. It is like the leader to control all the switches and systems. I think computation for the musical can create more relative interaction between the audiences and the actors and can better bring them into the scene. The space can be more simplified, the live band can hide behind the scene and use the AR technology to make the actors interact with people on the screen. The lights can be controlled by the computation, it can code by the computer to arrange the time they blink or what kind of light will turn on. It can also add sounds and screen next to the audience to make them feel they are a part of the performance. And those things are also controlled by the computation. There is a scene in Chicago, Roxie kills her lover which leads to the rest of the story. When the actors act that scene, they just use a dramatic acting way with the drum sound to show Roxie shoots her lover. It might have a better effect if the actor wearing clothes that maybe show the red light or liquid from the actor’s body and make the scene looks more real.
To achieve better interaction, which makes people more attached to what the artist wants to tell, computation is a very important tool. It can change the traditional life way to achieve a better understanding and entertaining.
