Impression of NYC
I always want to make something about memory, I think sand is a good symbol of time backward and memory. When combining sand and memory, I thought about sand painting.
Impression always helps to make our memories. When you stay in a place or stay with someone for a long time, you will have a deeper impression of that place or to that person. I thought about my personal experience. I came to the US since 2012 and spent two years and a half live in Peru, Illinois, three years and a half live in San Francisco, and now live in New York. From the countryside to cities, I have an impression of the US from different perspectives. It inspired me to make this project. It is like the story between me and New York City. When I came to New York and travel here, I had less impression of this city because I did not have enough time to stay here. When I started to live here, I have more time to observe this city, it made me have a deeper impression on this city.
I load the picture of NYC and made it shows its’ pixel which looks like a sand drawing. To make the idea of detecting the distance between the camera and the person sits in front of the camera.
When you get closer to the screen, it will start to draw the picture, and when you get far away, it will stop drawing. Closer to the screen, you get more details on the picture. You can also click on the screen to get a screen shot of your impression of NYC.
